Tall, thin, monolinear font needed.you can get a monolinear font (free) with Roman characters (normal ones that you would write English in, like these) in a number of widths and weights at www.billie.grosse.is-a-geek.com/resources-03a.html for free.
These fonts contain Gurmukhi (Indian) characters in the UTF-8 'Gurmukhi' range but you can ignore them and just use the ASCII range (Roman) characters (if you wanted to access the Indian characters, you would need to bugger about with your keyboard settings).
Here is an example from te site:
The example above uses the Indian characters but the nominal aspect ratio is the same with the Roman characters.
They are monolinear so the horizontal lines and the vertical lines are the same width (these are done so that they match the Indian characters in the font). Stretching or compressing a font to fit makes it ugly and people shouldn't do it - you should use the font that fits best and then tweak it a bit if necessary.
I've used them in an obvious way on B3TA on s1.b3ta.com/host/creative/82831/1266603081/avatarpinched.png s2.b3ta.com/host/creative/82831/1266926124/churchhell.gif and so on, as well as in a number of other images.
