Bristol: Wrong Jazz
My band, Sculpture, is making a rare appearance. If you're in the area, come along. It's a Wrong Jazz night, and we're playing alongside Spinal Jazz (ridiculously talented bunch of kids, though some might say the music's a bit wanky: 86% jazz), and Smokehand (wonderful noir songs of evil intent, for fans of Waits and Gainsbourg: 37% jazz). Sculpture is an improv punk-funk noise with an out-there saxophonist on top, and 41% jazz.
Jazz purists will hate it. Jazz haters will hate it. You'll probably hate it yourself. A bit of hate does you good: come and throw things at us. (Soft things, please.) It's only £2 or 3 in, and drinks are pretty cheap.
Seymour's is an experience in itself: an old-school working men's club, with skittles in the bar room, and home of the local Cliff Richard Appreciation Society. They make good chips, too. Even if you're not coming, have a look at their website. It's most amusing.
