Meh. Video was taken down from YT yesterday after a demand from the song's publisher. (The record company that owned the rights to the Soft Cell recording, on the other hand, had already allowed the video to remain live in most countries, and were monetising it, so I thought we were okay.) Now have a © strike against my account so have had to disable the other vids in the series too, as more can come in quick succession. I'd argue they're all "fair use" under US law and "fair dealing" under UK law, but have spoken to a lawyer and the position is murky. Our sort of parody, which requires taking the original audio *in its entirety* to work, was not envisioned when they brought in the parody exceptions, so its legality is unclear. I can't afford to be a "test case" and lose. This came 2 days after the video was used as the playout on BBC Newsnight. Takedown request was a manual one, not automated. VIdeo was a vIctim of its success, I guess. Mulling over options, but fear this series of videos may be scuppered. (Still seems to be working on here, oddly, but guess it's just cached on my machine). Shame, 'cos we were just putting the finishing touches to a killer follow-up. :(
