This is a link post A libel law condundrum
tl:dr - Le Carre called a Marxist academic under the control of MI5 'Hobsbawn' in A Perfect Spy. The real Marxist academic Eric Hobsbawm was miffed. He never brought a libel action, but what would have happened - it's such an unusual name and the Marxism is correct that the jury would struggle not to see this as identification. But is it libel?
