The problem is until we are all-knowing; all our "science" about "the future" is uncertain.
We're taking odds on our existence - because no one has "track form" - we haven't run this race before - and it's far from over I suspect.
But all of politics is a gamble at the future. These kids will grow to understand this.

Consensus on being able to predict the future.
Have we modelled the human brain yet? No? Oh, but we're doing the planet?... and we're saying where we'll be in 20 - 40 - 50 years time?
I'm all for doing things about it now... but I'm also not too worried about humanity.
....and the planet will go on regardless.
