Terrible headline; "up to £100,000" could be anything. Could be a fiver. I wonder where they got that figure from.

Hazledean's press release says, "Covering the costs and the compensation is going to exceed £20,000".[1] - as reported by the Metro. The judge apparently said £10,000.[2]. Still a lot, but more credible. The skeptic in me wonders if the inflated figure is a way to gain more from the crowdfunding of the amount.

What he has been ordered to pay is £4,161.79 in damages. I don't know the case details, but that does not seem unreasonable for knocking someone over, causing a facial scar, if it was demonstrated that he was responsible.

If he believes that he suffered damages that she was responsible for, he could take her to court over that, sure - but that's a totally separate issue.

Costs incurred through defence are a complicated issue. To be frank, he should've just admitted he knocked her over and paid a few grand compo. I'm basing that on the finding from the case that they "were equally culpable in this accident". He chose to contest his own responsibility in the matter, and was shown to be incorrect. His choice incurred costs, which someone has to pay.

Edit: Ah, "Ms Brushett has sought almost £100,000 in costs". Frankly, that means jack shit. You start negotiations with an arbritrarily high number, in the hope of a better (realistic) settlement. ("This bloke won't haggle!").

He'll probably end up paying 15-20K, or something like that. The crowdfunder has already raised over £12k.
