If you look at the guardian's homepage for today, there's something like 25 straight news stories before you see the first opinion piece
all newspapers have their share of fluff and inessential columnists, and the guardian's ratio isn't increasing. I remember burchill in the 90s and when they took the fantastic decision to give Peaches Geldof a column in the 2000s. You can always ignore them, unless you're a reactionary looking for something to get triggered by
