Who has no practical idea of the size of any cells including a virus vs one of its component molecules. The virus is piggy backed in a bigger host cell or clump to be viable and infectious.
So... as opposed to a pore in a latex sheath which does pretty well on common pure gasses several hundreds of times smaller (apart from helium which gets through just about anything....)
He should be sieving a kilo of edam or a whole red edam cheese to make the scale about right with that sized sieve.
