This is a link post MP Too drunk to vote.
On first glance, not worth posting - but he's got a fairly appropriate name...

This is a normal post Has anyone else noticed...
...Links is turning into a mirror of the BBC News website? I'm guilty of this myself of course, and I've learned to never post anything that I saw on Boingboing...

This is a normal post In the real world
being too drunk to do your job means instant dismissal. But then in the real world, we can't drive in bus lanes* or smoke in a private, subsidised bar.

*Unless you are a bus driver.

This is a normal post Really???!?
...in my job, if we're too intoxicated to work, it's expected that we just take the afternoon off as annual leave and just carry on the next day...

This is a normal post Perhaps it depends on the job
I suppose i could get away with it now, as I'm the boss! But my previous jobs in a different industry, it would be instantly out the door, gross misconduct, so no warnings.

This is a normal post Quite right...
... for example, Bus / lorry /train driver, anything where lives could be at risk, that's just sensible.

But as a lowly, sexy IT engineer... I don't think there's much danger.

This is a normal post I would still imagine
your boss would be a bit peeved if he expected an afternoons work out of you and you said 'Nah, decided to get pissed instead' and went home without notice. But all work places are different!
