Yeah, it could have just been a mugging but at that age I'm guessing she isn't carrying much cash.
Mind, he was stupid enough to assault her despite her gi and belt colour, so he wasn't terribly smart anyway!
The bit where he tries to escape out the doors only to be grabbed and dragged back in for some extra beating ended me! Classic :D
