This is a question Irrational Hatred

People who say "less" when they mean "fewer" ought to be turned into soup, the soup fed to baboons and the baboons fired into an active volcano. What has you grinding your teeth with rage, and why?

Creeping Americanisms
Trick or treat. Cheerleaders. High-school proms. Rocky Road.

I have nothing fundamentally against these things -- when in America. All fine and splendid things, over there.

But why do they suddenly pop up here in the UK? Did I miss a meeting? Suddenly, one year, there were kids on my doorstep demanding sweets - or rather, candy. Suddenly there were cheerleaders in the town parade.

The irrational bit is that a) I don't dislike America / Americans (lived there for a while), and b) I quite enjoy taking my kids Trick Or Treating. But it still annoys me, the way it creeps in.

Indeed.
We'll be using German and French words in daily exchanges next.

Indeed
Cheerleaders over here are a bit minging. I remember going to an ice hockey game in Manchester and there were six cheerleaders; one was pretty chubby to be wearing the outfit. Later, when only five came back out, someone shouted "the fat one has eaten the other girl!"

I feel sorry for Bonfire Night
Been overshadowed a bit by Americanised Halloween.

You still get sproglets knocking on the door asking for stuff, but now it's wearing supermarket-bought Far-Eastern made plastic Halloween tat, rather than pushing a badly-made effigy around in their kid sister's toy pram.

Maaahvellous, isn't it? Jumpers for goalposts, etc.
