Lies Your Parents Told You
I once overheard a neighbour use the phrase "nig nog". I asked my father what it meant. As quick as a flash he said, "It's a type of biscuit. A bit like a hobnob." Can you beat this? BTW: We're keeping this thread open for an extra week as we're enjoying the stories so much.

whenever the phone rings, my top dad always claims that 'It's the Police'. He still says it, every time the phone rings, to this day - that's almost 30 years. And I still don't have a clue why
