Reminds meof the installation of Edinburgh's first talking traffic lights at a pedestrian crossing. Supposedly, an American tourist asked why the announcement was made that "Traffic going to Princes Street has been signalled to stop". Local answered "So blind people know the lights are at red". Tourist - "In America we don't let the blind drive"
