TJ: in photoshop, how do i change the colour settings from gray back to normal colour?

for some reason it won't let me have colour now (prolly cos i did the rest of the image in grey and thinks i want everything gray.)

image > mode to RGB

have you invoked grayscale via a layer (say channel mixer) or is the image type greyscale?

A better idea when you want to change a layer to greyscale is to use image - adjustments - desaturate. That way it wont change the colour settings for the whole image.
