# When you say 'draw'
are you actually drawing these or just tracing over screencaps? Just out of curiosity.

# are screen caps like the ones you get on rolls?
or the new shiny disc ones?

# I loved the ones on rolls
unfurl them and drag a stone across the lot in one go :D

# I did that at lunch time with my friend Harriet
she caught her hair on fire and we had to get the lunch monitor to pour custard over her firey tresses

# HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I would pay money to see a child set their hair alight with caps.

Am I wrong to feel this way?

# Well I was going to vector them, by drawing over them and making them look exact,
but I thought "If I'm going to do a tracing job, I should at least make it more artistic"
So I sketch the outline, and I sketch all the colours without using any paths or fill tools.
Yukari's hair took bloody ages.
I also decided not to just cut it off where it finishes in the original, I finished Yukari's hair off outside the borders and I made it look as if the borders have been ripped off.
In the one of Yukari, I tried to make the edges like the curls at the bottom of her hair.

Does that seem like I'm not putting much effort into it? Because I am.

# So you're tracing over screencaps.
:p

# Yeah.
My defence is that I'm terrible at drawing anime from scratch.
I spent ages trying and settled with that.

# It can be a bit cheap and deceiving, though, really.
I mean, people say something like "Did you draw this?" and you say "Yes" and they're all like "Wow", but actually if you had said "No actually I kinda traced it really" they might've gone "Oh, well, okay that's still neat I guess."

I'm in no way saying tracing is bad, by the way. I don't want to control what people post on b3ta. That'd be STOOPIDS.

# I'm not trying to be deceiving.
But that doesn't mean I haven't drawn it.
And it's not as if I've put no effort into it, because I have.
(, Wed 2 Jan 2008, 14:12, archived)
# well then don't call it drawing.
problem solved.
(, Wed 2 Jan 2008, 14:11, archived)
# Well I still drew it, didn't I?
"Did you draw that?"
"No, it magically appeared of its own accord"?
(, Wed 2 Jan 2008, 14:13, archived)
# Jamaica!
(, Wed 2 Jan 2008, 14:16, archived)
# "Did you draw that?"
"No, I traced it"
(, Wed 2 Jan 2008, 14:17, archived)
# But it's still the physical act of drawing it!
Tracing is a kind of drawing!
(, Wed 2 Jan 2008, 14:22, archived)
# It's not, though, is it? It's a kind of copying.
You insist it took time and effort, but that time and effort was spent tracing over something which took far more time and effort. IT'S DILUTING. THE DILUTING OF EFFORT. EFFORTLUTING. AND LUTING TAKES A LOT OF EFFORT. D:
