In BTTF, the actually had to modify the speedometer coz a DeLorean can only hit 85mph

Its actually that US issue ones only had a speedo that went to 85MPH

Government restrictions on US cars in the early 80s, most cars made at the time would have similar speedometers, though top speed went higher...
Would have added a little extra suspense to the film though "Marty, we have to get to 88mph... not quite sure how fast we are now... but we're nearly there"
