(Except that carrots don't really give you better sight in the dark, that was just a lie the government spread during WW2 to explain how our pilots could detect Luftwaffe bombers from way off in the distance during the night. The real reason of course was that our chaps had the wonder of science on their side (yay for science!) in the form of Radar but obviously it was for the best for the Krauts not to know that such a thing was possible hence why they told everyone that carrots = optical goodness)

I am actually in the process of making my own night vision goggles, here's the first test rig (the 2nd incarnation will use different LCD glasses & a camera without a metal case cos that one's too heavy):
1st 3 images are with the infra-red filter on the camera, the res all show how good the infra-red LEDs are, last 3 images are the actual LCD glasses display
