This is DON-8r - a fundraising robot I have designed as my final year project for Uni. It's raising money for a local science centre (which is a registered charity) so all the money getting put into it is going to a good cause. This video is a bit of a tester for a more polished version as I have yet to make a few more tweaks to the design. It's got a great chiptune soundtrack though by my mate, Edward Shallow - his stuff is superb: edwardshallow.bandcamp.com/
Also, just to complete the shameless self promotion, I have been documenting the construction of DON-8r over at www.timpryde.com/blog
Thanks, enjoy!

(I assume you've got trackable devices installed?)

He should be dragging a massive ball & chain around, or have a self destruct mechanism.
It kinda reminds me of the little elf guys you whack in golden axe to get potions.

why are they running around with bags of gold anyway?! Deserve a fucking smack, and once you smacked them and stole they beans, they just keep coming back for more!

right now that is me but should the project escalate then it could be any one. means that if it gets properly stuck then someone will be there to help it out. I found that people were more supportive of it rather than wanting to steal it which is nice!

You could set it to shout "HELP! Put me down!" if it's lifted off the ground.

how much a robot full of coins weighs???
Neither do I.

I reckon it would stop working before it was full to the brim - too much metal weighing it down. Another reason for needing a minder!

patting it on it's head and giving it a hug!

quite a few folk taking photos of it! good publicity for me

I bet it'll bring in much more than some person moaning about how their charity is underfunded and some bankers are going to have to eat Sainsbury's brand cornflakes instead of Harrods brand.

I was surprised how mixed the donations were. I don't ask for any denomination of coin but there were a fair few £1's donated!

Like, if you put a £10 note in, does it transform into a sexy robot holly willoughby and suck you off? Or something...

there's always scope for development! A coin reader is something I would like to add in future but with three weeks until my final hand in I am a bit strapped for time there

you can't make a sexy holly willoughbooby robot in three weeks? Lazy bloody students! When I were a lad we had to make three sexy robots before lunchtime or we got the cane, and father would make us watch while he tested them.

make it do different stuff depending on the donation size - for example If you put a tenner in then it could start extolling your generosity to passers by in a loud voice...

That's the future of charity collection, that is.
Like this lots though, v cute.

and remains stationary until it receives another coin.

I think I want to move there, people got on board for a random act of kindness and I don't think I saw one chav!

There was some cunning edititng in there but on the whole a very positive response from people

Having shaken the odd bucket now and again, the Dundonians are rather nice when it comes to charity collecting type stuff.

Excellent work!
For a moment there at :55 I thought the blonde was going to piss on it.

add more coins slots with different effects - might encourage multiple donations
