I just love the way the former soldiers explain and justify what was going on. I've met loads of people like this, those in the vid are certainly not a minority in their way of thinking.

To be charitable
They were old men looking back on a time of heroic deeds and fallen comrades and trying desperately to justify their individual bravery, not to say heroism, in the face of an entirely unsympathetic world.
But the truth is that they were Nazis. And the only way they could retain any form of dignity would be to keep their mouths shut and go silently to the grave.
