This is a question Bodge Jobs

If you can't fix it with a hammer and a roll of duck tape, it's not worth fixing at all, my old mate said minutes before that nasty business with the hammer and a roll of duck tape. Tell us of McGyver-like repairs and whether they were a brilliant success or a health and safety nightmare.

Not a big bodge, but WHY?
In our first home, an old terraced jobby, the walls were mostly covered with that most wonderful of material: wood-chip paper that had been painted over many, many times.

Fair enough, and common enough in an old house, you might think, but what was unique is that the paper was laid horizontally.

Now I know lining paper is normally laid horizontally, but never before nor since have I seen the actual top-level paper laid that way.

And what was amazing was that he got the lines PERFECTLY horizontal on 13ft lengths of paper. No gaps, no wobbles, dead straight and totally level.

It was a "bodge" but what a talent!

That's a tough one.
Easier but just as random...

I have a distant "aunt" who lives not too far from us and supposedly has a fixation with all things "oriental and exotic" or somesuch.

This extends to the hallway which is covered in a wallpaper of Chinese characters. My wife who, although born in the UK, comes from a Chinese family tells me it's hung upside down!

Haaaa!
Brill.
I'd so love to meet someone who "genuinely by accident" got chicken fried rice tattooed on their butt on holiday.

My missus'
housemate had 'MSG' tattooed in chinese characters just above his gentlemen's area. If there's any justice in the world, he will have ended up with a profound and moving proverb.

a girl i used to know
was dating a tattooist whilst knocking his mate off on the sly. when the tattooist found out, he didn't tell her, he just offered to tattoo her name onto her back in arabic.
what she actually got was the arabic for "slut"

I have painted lining paper in my hall and living room.
The decorator who put it up double-layered it; the bottom layer is vertically hung, but the top layer is horizontal. No idea why.
