This is a question Crap Gadgets

We wanted a monkey butler and bought one off eBay. Imagine our surprise when we found it was just an ordinary monkey with rabies. Worse: It had no butler training at all. Tell us about your duff technology purchases.

Thanks to Moonbadger for the suggestion

Babyliss easy cut hair clipper
I had one of these until last night:

www.amazon.co.uk/BaByliss-Men-7435U-Easy-Clipper/dp/B002FGTIZU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1317301359&sr=8-2

It uses circular blades to give you a nice close trim....

Absolute bollocks. Unless you have a perfectly spherical head, it is impossible to get a "nice close trim" as it runs over the normal lumps and bumps of the skull leaving long bits and short bits. The perfect example of a product that is designed for form over function.

I actually stamped on it last night

I fell for that too.
It was worse than useless.

I struggled through with it until I had saved 4 barbers trips and it had paid for itself then got rid.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one....
Back to the Wahl hedge trimmers for me.....

I really don't ever watch Ads and think
"I have to get one of those", but I fell for that one hook line and sinker.

And to the point where the first two times I used it I was in denial, telling the missus 'oh, those missed bits? That's my fault, it's great really and I just need to get used to it'.

I eventually shamefacedely admitted that no, it wasn't great really, it was a piece of crap.

Mixture of reviews
but the 1 star ones outnumber the 5 star ones by more than 2:1. Surprised this did not put you off

I nearly bought one of those, until I read the reviews
I had the Philips one instead and it's absolutely brilliant

I nearly did the very same.
But this Philips one is good, is it? If my current clippers die I'll definitely have a go at that one next.

You want a nice normal set of barber's buzzers
I use Wahl ~£30 jobs, come with a pair of hair scissors too for getting the little bits over your ears. Dead easy to run over your own head/face/other hairy bits you might want to trim, come with blade 1-4 clipone and an adjustable head.

They invented the bloody things, and I've only had to buy two in 20 years. They're the exact opposite of this QOTW.

/Edit: The appear to be £40 now, which shows how long they last.
