This is a question My Biggest Disappointment

Often the things we look forward to the most turn out to be a huge let down. As Freddy Woo puts it, "High heels in bed? No fun at all. Porn has a lot to answer for."

Well, Freddy, you are supposed to get someone else to wear them.

What's disappointed you lot?

Cake-based disappointment
I'm just back at my desk from grabbing some lunch in town.
I had a delicious BLT, on lovely brown bread.
I thought I'd treat myself to an exciting Monday-commiserating cake.
I got a fantastic-looking piece of chocolate-caramel-shortbread.

I just took it out of the bag, and the sodding shortbread was squidgy, moist paste.
Fuckers.

I made some of that
once. Gave someone a mesenteric infarct.

Oh no! No!
*cries*
*is traumatised by Kaol's crap cake experience*

Suggestions Needed
My turn to buy cakes for work peeps next week as it's my birthday. What cakes would be most appreciated by gluttenous peers, in your expert opinion as baked goods connesieurs?

Fudge doughnuts
Are a traditional favourite in these parts.

A whole week's worth of sugar, fat and cholesterol in a convenient, tasty package.
(, Mon 30 Jun 2008, 14:25, closed)
That is very distressing news.
Would you like me to bring you a tasty cake to have a nibble on on friday to make you feel better?

chocolate cake
squidgy moist fudgy chocolate cake. from sainsbury's, if you can't be arsed to make it.

edit: the kind that will cause your hot colleagues to lick their fingers and thus set you on an edge of hornylust for the rest of the day. which, since it's your birthday, is allowed.

and champagne!

@K2k6, hlt
I think you may have nailed it.
Not having much of a sweet tooth I never really buy stuff like that. Copious chocolate and fudge it is then. Cheers!

Awh, you lovely people!
Ms Wanderlust, I would never refuse the taste of your delicious, sugary buns...

If it's any consolation,
I just bought a blueberry muffin and it was DELICIOUS.

Oh wait.

@kaol
That's good to know, I shall bring you something lovely and cream filled to get your chops round then.

*raises eyebrow*
You realise I may have to kiss you by proxy for a certain lady who shall be conspicuously absent on Friday?
(, Mon 30 Jun 2008, 14:50, closed)
@K2k6
I hope you mean from Aulds and not Greggs! I love fudge doughnuts but Greggs just don't quite get it right.

@Moniker
Fisher and Donaldson. Local bakers.

The best.

That's ok
as long as you give her an extra big one back from me.

I'm gutted I can't make the bash in august and give her one myself though :(

@K2k6
Mmmmm...... :)
I spent childhood holidays in St Andrews, and F+D doughnuts were a highlight! It's still a guaranteed stop any time I'm through there. They are without doubt the best fudge doughnuts in the whole wide world.
You've got me drooling on my keyboard here!
(, Mon 30 Jun 2008, 15:05, closed)
I'll give her an extra big one,
Don't you worry.
*ahem*

I'm looking forward to actually having some real-world conversations with you people, instead of being a drunken mess.
(, Mon 30 Jun 2008, 15:15, closed)
It should be good
wholesome, clean cut fun.
*ahem*
(, Mon 30 Jun 2008, 15:26, closed)
Well...
I have to drive afterwards, and it's not my car, so...
*frowns*

To be honest, I have no idea what you look like, despite having met you. I hope I recognise you...
I'm sorry about that.
But my excuse is the red vomit.
(, Mon 30 Jun 2008, 15:31, closed)
That's ok...
I'll be the one holding the cakes.
(, Mon 30 Jun 2008, 15:37, closed)
*grins*
I'll keep an eye out for your delicious, sweet cupcakes then...
(, Mon 30 Jun 2008, 15:44, closed)
i would feel your pain
but i'm too full of danish and apple turnover to be sympathetic ;)
(, Mon 30 Jun 2008, 16:09, closed)
You evil,
Heart-less bitch!
(, Mon 30 Jun 2008, 16:18, closed)
I think so!
I'll have to start saving my pennies now :D
