This is a question Hoarding

Willenium says: I had to bring some floppy disks into work which I had been saving for 10 years "in case I might need them". Tell us when your hoarding skills have come in useful (or not, as the case may be)

Conkers
at what point did it go from finding-and-playing conkers to collecting-and-doing-nothing-with conkers?

My son found a really hard conker in his pocket from last year, it was shrivelled like a prune, hard as a diamond. I straight away thought, that would defo be a 10'er, or a 15'er. Asked my son if he had ever played conkers, he said no.

:(

sad times.

marbles was yyyyyeeeaaars ago
though I wouldnt be surprised (even though they are in the shops still) if they go under a massive resurgence.

Look at Pogs and how they took over.

so you hoard Marbles?
Why are you keeping them? Incase someday someone might knock on your door challenging you?

possibly
but mostly for aesthetic reasons

Was it true...?

That story a few years back, when a headmaster (allegedly) made his pupils wear protective goggles when playing conkers?

Might have been 'Daily Mail' bullshit however...

from what i remember
he was using it to illustrate what he saw as the stupidity of health and safety laws. there was no real reason for the conker-playing kids to be kitted out like that and no law to say that they should be, he just chose that scenario and ran with it.

Wasn't that the same story...
...which prompted Top Gears game of conkers played with caravans suspended from cranes?

I can barely find anyone to play with these days :/

...i see...
and what about the conkers?
(, Wed 9 May 2012, 15:15, closed)
Oh, they'll play with me

(, Wed 9 May 2012, 15:30, closed)
they mostly go uncollected
I still find it really weird walking past conker trees in the middle of towns with bumper crops being utterly ignored by children. I have to resist the temptation to run and gather them up giggling evilly and declaring 'they're all mine muhahaha!'
Actually maybe I will do that next time conker season comes around...

I like to fondle them
They're so smooth and silky when they're new...

Conkers are pretty good, too.

I still know where all the best conker trees are near my mum and dads house
Some conker trees just wouldnt produce conkers, or if they would, would mostly be the 2 half conkers, which are useless.
