the germans are often seen as droll and humourless...crank it up a notch - what would the nazi's have found to be funny. I mean what kind of jokes would be told in the while rolling through poland in 1939? Did they do fart-gags in a pill box overlooking the beaches at normandy on D-day? What kind of jokes would you tell in a concentration camp guard barracks room?
