isn't it distracting you from the miserableness
of life in the 21st century?
(, Fri 18 May 2012, 19:37, 1 reply, 12 years ago)
It'll make a few people rich
I object to the London - Southern Counties centric of the whole thing.
(, Fri 18 May 2012, 19:43, Reply)
I come from the north and live in wales
I know exactly what you mean. London/bbc tend to forget the rest of the country
(, Fri 18 May 2012, 19:45, Reply)
You've got Dr Who, what more do you want?

(, Fri 18 May 2012, 20:01, Reply)
they just moved the BBC to Salford, what more do you want?

(, Fri 18 May 2012, 20:03, Reply)
It'll get nicked up there

(, Fri 18 May 2012, 20:06, Reply)
Whilst we are the best part of this country by some distance.
We don't want the fucking thing either. I'd happily have another city take it, pity they're all to shit to host such a thing. London's amazingness is its own worst enemy sometimes.
(, Fri 18 May 2012, 19:45, Reply)
London is a foetid shit hole
with a few good gigs and art galleries.
(, Fri 18 May 2012, 19:47, Reply)
It's by far and away the best place in this country.
That's why so many people come here and not to I dunno, Doncaster. There's a reason people come here. It's ace and has everything.
(, Fri 18 May 2012, 19:52, Reply)
i lived there for nearly a year
and couldn't wait to leave. It's crap because of the people there
(, Fri 18 May 2012, 19:56, Reply)
So did I - on the same street as CQ, we once established.
Now I live in a place that I like.
(, Fri 18 May 2012, 19:59, Reply)
That wasn't my point Barry
Previous Olympics have been held across a big geographical area. This is all South East.
(, Fri 18 May 2012, 19:56, Reply)
that's because the rest of the country is shit, FACT

(, Fri 18 May 2012, 20:03, Reply)
Give it another 5-10 years and it'll have ghettoes, apartheid zones and a privatised military police force too.

(, Fri 18 May 2012, 20:45, Reply)
London is a fine city
But it isn't Britain. There's an awful lot of UK out here and - as usual - it gets ignored, this time on an international stage.
(, Fri 18 May 2012, 19:49, Reply)
Things get ignored for a reason.

(, Fri 18 May 2012, 19:51, Reply)
What reason?
Do you not think that Newcastle isn't a good venue for some of the games? Gateshead arena?
(, Fri 18 May 2012, 19:53, Reply)
Newcastle is a great place and with a bit of investment could host a couple things.
But you're not help making your point by mentioning Gateshead stadium. It's an absolute fucking dump.
(, Fri 18 May 2012, 19:58, Reply)
But rather than spending our money on a whole new venue
Couldn't we have spent less money on improving it and attracted a cash investment from visitors?
(, Fri 18 May 2012, 20:01, Reply)
as a londoner it's costing me more than you

(, Fri 18 May 2012, 20:04, Reply)
But you're getting out of it a better transport and facilities infrastructure than we are.

(, Fri 18 May 2012, 20:07, Reply)
I'm not Iive in the west...4

(, Fri 18 May 2012, 20:09, Reply)
Isn't a lot of the "legacy" going into Crossrail though?

(, Fri 18 May 2012, 20:12, Reply)
cross rail was always an option
what we really need is a new airport in the thames estuary, that would be good
(, Fri 18 May 2012, 20:13, Reply)
London City?

(, Fri 18 May 2012, 20:17, Reply)
needs MOAR size

(, Fri 18 May 2012, 20:23, Reply)
It's called Schipol.
Short of some Panama Canal type excavation, that's the best you'll get.
(, Fri 18 May 2012, 20:31, Reply)
I haven't seen much improvement.
And I've been in and around East London where the games are going to be - Clapton, Shoreditch, Hackney, Mile End, Bethnel Green etc - loads the past month or so. I honestly wouldn't know there'd been improvements unless someone told me. That said the new Kings Cross and London Bridge concourses are nice. Don't make a difference to the actual travelling, mind.
