Dempsey and Makepeace is where the action is.
It's the true story of a 'Yank' cop who has to move to England for his own safety after a 'hit' is put out on him, it's well gritty and true to life and dead good and violent and they rarely swear and it's like, well good. And there are baddies in it and everything.
