A few years backI shared a house with my girlfriend and her two teenage sons. One day I had a word with them about their pinching my vodka.
They were amazed that I'd caught them, since as far as they could see, topping the bottle up with water should have made the theft undetectable.
The problem for these two master criminals was that I always kept the bottle in the freezer, and discovering the vodka frozen into a solid lump was a bit of a giveaway that it might not be 40% ABV any more.

Lorks, that's brought back some memories, only the other way round...I was the teenager and my dad kept pinching my vodka and 'topping it up' with water.
That particular mystery was solved one evening when I realise I had downed an entire bottle and felt nothing but nicely hydrated.
For one fleeting moment though, I thought I was a right hardcase.
Good times.
