The last hour or so has been amazing!
What's better than spending a lot of money in Primark?
Having your boyfriend buy you lots of stuff there, then on your way out, seeing your mother, who notices you've been spending wisely by going to Primark, buy you a lot more stuff as a reward.

Then she bought my boyfriend and me lunch.
Then she nearly had a heart attack when I told her I've gone straight edge.

Fuck, a money-saving day :D

/proud blog

What have you all been up to?
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:27, archived)
I'm not sure I see what's wrong with going straight edge
Not drinking, not smoking, ah. Yes. Saves a lot of money mind you.
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:31, archived)
Nothing wrong
But since I was about 16 she's seen me stagger in from clubs mortal, endure week long comedowns and go on 2 day bingers to celebrate little things like passing college.

Now I'll be walking home, very happy, remember the night before and feel nothing but tired :)

Oh right ... so when you say 'straight edge' you could actually have used a real meaningful term
like 'temperance' or 'puritan' or 'methodist'?
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:37, archived)
Puritanism
The irrational fear, that someone, somewhere, is having a good time.
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:41, archived)
Yes.
*cough* speaking of which ... is our favourite fat tory not around today? *coughity cough*
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 14:05, archived)
Or boring.
She could have used the term boring.

Wicca'd Witch would like to point out that she is in no way condeming those who have an alcohol and/or drug addiction, they are to be congratulated...but people who make the decision, purely to smug it up to others about how much better than you they are, deserve an eternity of BEIGE.
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:45, archived)
In other words, living like a typical teenager
Still, in terms of healthy living, a good choice. I used to be straight edge for a while, and then I discovered real ale. And started smoking. Which I have stopped doing, owing to Mum's health.
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:38, archived)
not being straight edge

Straight edge?
Is this a self-harm thing?
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:33, archived)
"gone straight edge"?
what does this MEAN?
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:33, archived)
what's straight edge?

(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:33, archived)
Not drinking, smoking or doing drugs
And as the post above, it's not about self-harm. You're thinking emo.
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:35, archived)
good god.
How terribly dull. Why not just do things in moderation, to show you have some control?
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:39, archived)
yay
also: and sometimes do a lot, just to prove you can?
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:43, archived)
indeed
you can't find out what is enough without first establishing what is too much..
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:48, archived)
Because it's not actually a decision on how to live her life
it is an infantile pose to compensate for a lack of an actual personality.
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:45, archived)
Wrong
It's a bid to try and be healthy, as I feel like shit lately.

I don't think other people should do it unless they want to. I wouldn't look down on anybody for drinking/being off their face/smoking. That's being hypocritical!
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:50, archived)
No. If you'd wanted to be healthy you would have said 'I'm going on a health kick'
what you actually said was "I am joining some half-arsed puritanical teenage movement that condemns booze and drugs aren't I the fucking cool one I used to be dead hard and do drugs but now I'm even harder because I don't".
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:58, archived)
There's a wiki article on it.
It's utter guff. Complete shite. And, as always, you, Shambolic, my hero, are right.
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 14:03, archived)
Oh stop it ... you're making my winkle go all stiff.

(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 14:07, archived)
that
and also, if you look properly at the medical stats the government use, being teetotal is worse for you healthwise than any level of alcohol consumption up to about 50 units a week. You don't tend to get doctors telling you that though.

So it's a pretty poor health kick.
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 14:07, archived)
I want to be you.

I've done a few straight edge gigs
recently. One of them had some very far right overtones.
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:54, archived)
gigs?
People collectively attend this sort of thing?
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:59, archived)
Oh yes.
Skinheaded punks mostly. Easily led chumps, the lot of them.
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 14:13, archived)
Straight Edge is a life style choice
which I have not got any problems with. Each to their own and all that. A lot of Straight Edge bands are Hardcore Punk and metal, Oi and god knows what else. Most of the people I've come across have been on the far left, anarchy and all that but there are a couple of subsections who are far right. There's also Hardline which takes straight edge further.

I just put my house up for sale.
And is there any good reason I should care what 'going straight edge' means?
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:33, archived)
Are you going to be staying in Cambridge?
Or have your new overlords made you a better offer?
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:36, archived)
Staying in Cambridge.
We've got our eye on a big wreck. Sale price: one small fortune. Cost of required work: another small fortune.
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:40, archived)
Not Syd's old place is it?

(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:56, archived)
Funnily enough we did look at that
but there's something odd going on with inheritence or something that looked a bit dodgy.

The place we're looking at is much more of a wreck.
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 14:04, archived)
Punks that don't drink or smoke
and there is not a little religeous input too in some cases, although all the straight edge people i know seem to still be fond of violence but now in a self riteous 'but i don't drink / consume drugs way'
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:37, archived)
"straight edge"
sounds like an attempt at making abstinence somehow 'cutting'.
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:42, archived)
Definately not punk, thanks
And no, I just want to get healthier. I may decide against it in a year or two, who knows? Violence is not my thing anymore either.
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:42, archived)
Except all straight edge bands ARE punks
ie Fugazi et al.
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 14:08, archived)
Give it to me.
I'll look after your vegetable plot.

Spending far too much money at the weekend while having no source of income :-/

(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:34, archived)
what's better?
spending money in selfrdges and not being straight edge!

hello
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:35, archived)
Hello
and I'd rather be healthy!! I can have fun without doing that, I've proven it!
(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 13:40, archived)
this is infinately better
what did you have done in the end?
have you got a piccy?

(, Mon 4 Sep 2006, 14:04, archived)
Congratulations.
On jumping on the most pointless bandwagon ever. Straight Edge. Another inane fad from those joyless yank fuckwits.
Do you even realise that 90% of those yanks who claim to be sraight edge abandon it as soon as they turn 21? They're just too gutless to drink underage. Well done.

My day so far...
So far I've had 2 interviews for a supervisor position. Might have a 3rd this afternoon. Also sent some emails and done some testing...
What's left to do is a couple of more emails as well as making plans for this evening. So far I've got nothing...any ideas?
