I did a stint on a refuse collection round in Liverpool for a while (long story)but one of the guys on the wagon said that they were collecting a manky old sofa from someone's back yard, heaved it into the hopper, turned the mechanism over thereby sending it up into the compactor, and the next time they cycled it and it opened up a moggy came tearing out of it.
