It must be standard parent sttrategy,mine used to do much the same thing. Not the best way to start a holiday, having to get up obscenely early.

I never did.I stumbled out of bed at around midnight and promptly fell asleep in the back of the car. Next thing I knew, it's sunrise and we're in Cornwall.
Apart from that one year I woke up five miles out, and asked 'are we there yet' every ten minutes for the next six hours.
