I'm more than willing to go with this.
But personally I feel they could have had at least publicly expressed regret in not getting the manifesto promise through, even if they're voting for these new measures for the sake of the coalition's survival. Trying to convince what they're doing to prospective voters like me isn't just going against the grain, it's a bit suicidal. Of course naturally they're bound to express openly their support for it to make it seem they're not boldly voting against their own party's opinion, but as a tactical move I don't feel this has worked and it just makes them seem as corruptible as anyone else.

the libdems arent stupid, they'll knife clegg in the back long before the next election and the coalition will collapse.
The tories will muddle on with a minority government and they'll get all the flack in 5 years time.
