You recognise that Steve Jobs has pushed multimedia on the web backwards by several years by deciding on behalf of his users that they cannot install the Flash player. Because of this decision, developers are forced to use inferior solutions that are less reliable, more difficult to develop and offer lower performance as the equivalent Flash element?
Therefore, we have essentially taken steps back and, as an exaggeration of that realisation, you chose a format that harks back to early days of the internet when low quality GIFs were commonplace.
