I did something similar and got a similarly reserved responseI think it might be 'cos at the start of this it was supposedly about race so some people think showing them as monkeys means racism.
Also far too many people still believe this riot was about something other than mindless chavs smashing shit and was some sort of rise of the proletariat against the establishment. It really wasn't.
I like Frances take on it in the latest 'What the world press thinks' list on the beeb:
'What motivates the English rioters, those who have really been active? As often in these cases, a mix of anger and boredom, of provocation and opportunism, a kind of middle finger pointed at all authorities, starting with the police, and a homage to the consumerist society via looting.'
Sounds about right, bored, pissed off, nowt to do, no ones about, oh look, JD Sports, anyone got a brick?
