Wife, mother, great-great-grandmother, provincial champion ball player, duplicate bridge life master. Born Aug. 1, 1912, in Port Sydney, Ont. Died June 30, 2011, in Hamilton after a stroke, aged 98.
Nobody loved baseball, and in particular her Toronto Blue Jays, more than Dollie Shoveller. So great was her passion that her family was convinced she would never die during baseball season. So she threw us a bit of a curve by suffering a life-ending stroke in June, some of us certain it was prompted by the Blue Jays having loaded the bases with none out and not scored a couple hours earlier. Inexcusable.
