My Grandad, very Irish and very much a republican, was once asked by a cousin for suggestions for names for their new son. The cousin was Canadian, had no real knowledge of Irish history and had the surname Collins. You can guess what my Grandad suggested. It was only three months after the name had been registered that said cousin discovered the significance of it. He wasn't amused :)
