I started primary school in 1980 (Ireland) and from the teachers, I got . . . . . . punched, slapped, the strap (leather baton across the hand '6 of the best' as the head called them), meter ruler's broke over my ass, hair pulled and mouth washed out with a soap bar . . . but it was worth every second!
