I just remember walking past a completely empty house at dusk.Bullfrogs croaking all around. Fireflies. A single light burning above the stairs of the house, yet shining out of every window. Sheets with suspicious stains hanging on a line in the yard. A single guy stood on the porch holding a broom like it was shotgun. He watched us approach from maybe 100 yards, staring the whole while. As we drew level, he said "Y'all be safe now, y'all" and watched as we receded into the distance.
Walking past again another night when it was raining (the local shop was up the road that way), a tree fell over as we got near the place.
