do i HAVE to explain the mix up when NASA engineers were using metric and imperial measurements and it led to a right dilly of a pickle? coz quite frankly, I haven't the time.

I like the John Glenn quote - "I felt exactly how you would feel if you were getting ready to launch and knew you were sitting on top of two million parts - all built by the lowest bidder on a government contract."

"Space", by James Michener, is a really good read if you're into this sort of thing. I think he goes into quite some depth on the supply chain headaches of getting so many components with micrometric tolerances, all built by hundreds of different manufacturers spread across the US, to actually fit together. In hindsight it's amazing the things even got off the ground.
