His best tips: use manual timing/ISO, shoot in portait position, get at least 1/3 overlap, if you don't have a panoramic head on your tripod, don't get too many things too close to you in the picture (because of the parallax effect you get when panning) and use PTgui as a stitching tool.

That is, if you use a photo camera and not a phone with one of those panorama panning apps :)
