maybe it was a sinister trap in itself, albeit a recursive onehe'd send down a decoy, most likely an inflatable model of himself that had already been inflated, and that would scare the family, so they'd turn around and run, but then they'd run into the real sinister cat and he'd be able to gobble them up before they knew what was going on.

the most evil part isthat mountain rescue fish only saved his family by squashing the double, and sinister cat must be just out of shot...
