Sorry if this seems superfluous, but the 'Bristol' reference is because the people there stick an 'L' at the end of words ending in vowel sounds.
'Bristol' was originally called 'Bridgestow'. This was compacted down to 'Bristow', which the locals then pronounced as 'Bristol'.
Hence the story of the old Bristolian who said, 'I 'ave three daughters; Eval, Idal and Normal'
