# picking this hill to fight b3ta on?
Not very bright, are you laddie?

# we have to have people who push boundaries from time to time
otherwise things get boring

# You think *you're* pushing boundaries love?

# TIL
that a puerile digital artist is the equivalent of an electronic or mechanical device for making mathematical computations, nothing has intrinsic value, and believing otherwise is pretentious false vanity.

# I'm not comparing the artist to a calculator
are you stoned
(, Sat 25 Jul, 19:03, Reply)
# You are saying that using a calculator is as good as developing mental maths skills
and equating that to using an AI prompt instead of developing manual artistic skills, and characterising opposition to the idea as pomposity.

Therefore the human computer is of equivalent value to the mechanical/electronic calculator and the AI prompt output is of equivalent value to the work of the skilled artist. The correct solution to the mathematical or artistic problem is the same if you do it manually or if you employ a machine to do it mechanically.

If you're making a different argument please say so and spell out exactly what it is.

# the point in posting the article was to show that people always resist new tools out of fear
has mathematical ability been reduced by the introduction of calculators?
most certainly it has
i was basically saying that resistance to AI is a bit like those teachers
being resistant to the use of calculators
that's all

# So... Not even as good an argument as I gave you credit for. Okay.
You've reduced your argument to nothing. AI is nothing like a pocket calculator. See the environmental impacts of AI datacentre, the economic impact of hording GPUs, and the impact of the inevitable bursting of the AI bubble.

If there was a calculator bubble, history does not remember it on the same scale as tulips, railways, dot-coms or sub-primes.

# it wasn't really an argument as much as just cheekily teasing you
but the mods must be having a break
i haven't been banned yet
clearly
tick tock

# Is there a process for getting someone banned from B3ta?
Or do we just have to collectively ignore them?
