i think i saw somewhere
that the reason toast falls butter side down is if it falls off a table it starts to spin but only has long enuff to spin 180 degrees before landing, if it falls from a standard height table

if you see toast falling
pull the plate away fast. it may be fast enough to make it spin 360 degrees.
or make it spin so fast it flicks marmalade across your walls.
