just saw that...but you shouldn't have to build a new fla... update your pictures in whatever graphics software you use then open the library in the fla file and select all the bitmaps (hold down ctrl, shift doesn't work) then right click and select update... stick a tick against all the pics and it should update to your new improved smaller ones...
i've not used this myself but looks like it should work... you'll probably need to tweak positioning if you crop etc but much quicker than starting from scratch...
