The Union Jack......was first developed in 1606, but the diagonal red stripes were not added until 1801 when Ireland became part of the UK.
I don't know when it was first flown on a ship though.

of course,it would have been developed sooner, because of the union of the crowns (i'm a fool). but they'd have been english, not british, because it was still a little early for that, although they might have flown the union jack, yes.

Checked the trailers on the official website......and there is definitely a Union Jack sans St Patrick cross.
