Eric the Red, first person from Europe to discover America, beaten off by being rubbish at farming then attacked by a tribe of one legged men... At least that's what the Icelandic saga of Eric the Red says.

Technically then Leif was at best an Icelander and not from anywhere near the town of Vik... So he's still not a Viking.
