He grew up in Singapore back in the fifties. Anyway, his family used to live in this area called Changi. One night, he was watching his brother and his friend walk along the beach and he noticed this little light following them. It wandered behind them for quite a while. The next day, both his brother and his friend came down with a fever that lasted for two weeks.
On the other hand, wandering around a damp tropical area at night is bound to give you some illnesses.
There are some other more folkloric stories about sacred trees. There's a large tree right in the middle of an apartment complex in Singapore. Why is it still there? Well, every time they tried to knock it down, somebody got hurt or got killed. The last attempt was when they just tried to bulldoze it down. The bulldozer flipped over, killing the driver. So they just left it there and built up around it. I hope it's not an evil tree, like in that movie 'Ferngully'.

I have never seen one, but have felt a "spirit". My cousin died last summer, he was only 17. Sometimes I feel like there is someone behind me, but there never is. I'd like to think it is him, kindof watching over me. But I hope I won't know, at least for a while, 'cause like I said. I would shit my pants.

...told my mum that everyone has a guide watching over them from the spirit world.
She then went on to describe my mum's spirit... It was my great grandmother and the clothes she wore matched the wedding photo my mum had found behind another photo in a frame at my grandmother.
Kind of sweet to think that someone is there protecting you.

I think that the little glow that was following my uncle was a "mambang kuning" -- not a ghost, but mischevious spirits who only come out during sunset. The brighter the glow is, the more dangerous they are. So I guess that explains why my uncle got sick. Unless there are some sorts of glowing mosquitos which pass a mild form of malaria on.
