# my nan
my nan died about 2 years ago. for months before her death she was bedridden. she also was the worst chain-smoker i have ever seen. she died of lung cancer. dont smoke kids. anyways, after she died, the room she spent all day, every day in absolutely reeked of cigs. worse than when she was alive. the room wasnt needed anymore so noone cared that much. a year down the line and my aunt decides to convert the room. she goes in there and the room still smells. she opened all the windows and left it that way for a week with a powerful air freshener in there. the week passes and the smoke smell remains. they tried everything. fumigation, AC installation, the works. nothing will get rid of the smell. the room is still unconverted and unused

# Hmmm
Is the original carpet still in there?

I ask because I bought a house a few months ago and one of the rooms absolutely reeked of smoke and we tried a lot of stuff to get rid of it.

As soon as we decided we didn't like the carpet in there, and had ripped it out, the smell went (although the shed we put it in stunk).
