It's a difficult one
I think the key is not to think about it too much. I used to agonise for ages about what to say before and afterwards where as its best to just let the flood gates open to some extent.
That said I do spend most of my evenign lurking on a message board so I'm not sure I have any place to advise from really :)

hmmmm
that's a bit of a bugger. NO people at uni that you could group together for a post work drink/meal/thing?

Truly
I feel as if we are sharing a buoyant receptacle.
Erm, I mean we're in the same boat.
I know that's an entirely useless thing to say.

Night time b3ta really is all very nice.
I've never been in a thread that's gone this far over before. I'm quite excited.

used to be quite common

best thing to do is just to start talking to them about crap
it'll get easier. Most people will be happy to have a chat - the others arent worth bothering with - unless they are cute/have money

yeah I'm usually affraid of people
it's one of those things that you need to start off small and work your way up on
I started by chatting to people in coffee shops - then pubs - then classes again. Now I'll talk to about any one

I can't talk to people in coffee shops

I was on a rather heady brew of anti depressents
and cocktails on the day I decided to set myself down this path.
It's not a mix I usually recommend - the cocktail tasted of a very very nice hedge

Yup
I wouldn't have another one - but I would have to say it was lovely
but well over 7 pounds for a drink is more than too much for me

Boink.
That's exactly what my 1st month at uni's been like. It's all a little...strange to say the least.

AHHHHHHHHh first years
I did two first years - have as much fun as you can meet as many people as you can druink as much beer as you can possibly imagine - worry about the rest of it later. That's my advise

lots of b3tans are quiet
I'd suggest going to a b3ta bash, even if you don't say much they won't mind :)

You should come.
Cos then if nothing else I can at least talk to someone about how I talked about coming but wasn't sure cos I wouldn't know what to talk about with people I didn't know.
