A stopper broke, the rope jerked FAST around the room, moving up and down by about 6' as it did so, threatening to pull anyone entangled in it through a brass-lined hole about 3' diameter. All accompanied by the desperate clanging of the bells.
Everyone else got their bells under control, someone grabbed the rope & steadied it.
quite interesting but no-one got hung.
(when in a belltower, everyone not ringing sits with their legs under the seat. No-one touches a rope unless they know where the bell is & are going to ring it. If you ever leave the tower with any bells up, you make sure they are clearly labelled!)
